Just Checking In

Ol' Phoenix Chestnut got the damn flu. I never get sick. I got the flu bug early in the season.  I'm in bed now drinking my liquids and resting. Reading a very thorough book about Hamlet. I don't know why it's been of interest to me lately. I've watched most of Laurence Olivier's film version of Hamlet. Then as I was doing more research, I stumbled upon a famous 1964 stage play with Richard Burton. I have even downloaded a book to my Kindle, The Complete Works of Shakespeare.  Shakespeare was a very interesting man. I'll have to find a book about the man himself. Now, don't go thinking Ol' Phoenix Chestnut is getting too fancy for his britches! I'm just gathering up some new knowledge. I can only read or listen about so much country music.  I'm trying to avoid being bored.  Until next time!

Catching Up On Golf

It's been a busy year. It's been a fast year. It's November 5th! Thanksgiving is three weeks from Thursday. We just had our last 100 degree day a month ago.  Up until this past Saturday, I have only played eight rounds of golf all year. Yes, eight rounds! I usually do that in a couple of months. Yesterday I played my eleventh round. Today I'll play my twelfth. I don't think I've ever played four days in a row before. Yesterday I played better than I did Saturday. My accuracy is back. I'm missing puts by a quarter to a half inch. My wedge shots are getting better as well.  I know not to get excited. Eventually I'll be back to work next Tuesday. The days will get colder. Eventually it will rain for two weeks straight. Winter will rear It's ugly head soon enough. I'll get in all the golf I can. Until next time!

November Golf In The Darkness

I called out sick today. I needed a break. Lately everyone seems to want a piece of me or my time. I haven't played golf since August. Before that it was back in June. I've been very busy in this fast moving year. I've only played eight rounds all year. Today was round number nine. I played so so. Nothing exciting. My five iron was solid. It was my most dependable club in my bag today. My chipping was horrendous. Putting...meh.  I didn't get mad at my bad shots. I reminded myself that I haven't played in a couple of months. I think I might go out tomorrow. I asked the starter in the pro shop how busy the course is on football Sunday. He said it's very busy once the course opens, then at 10am, it's a virtual ghost town. I think I might play while others are watching football. As for the end of today's round. I'd tee off, hit my approach, pick the ball up and walk it to the green, then putt. I had to do that the last two holes. I went out a bit late. O...

25 Years Ago We Lost Sweetness

Walter Payton is one of the greatest football players in history. He did anything and everything a superstar should do, or had to do. His body took many a beating for thirteen seasons. In those thirteen seasons, he only missed one game. ONE GAME! He was durable and reliable. He was a badass. He was Sweetness.  Then a kidney disease took over his body. He fought the good fight. He was on the waiting list for a transplant.  Even the big, bold, and powerful face a challenge that overcomes them. Walter Payton was the epitome of perfect health. He never did drugs. He was always constantly working out.  He wasn't supposed to die so soon. Today, November 1st, 2024, he's been gone for a quarter of a century. What would Walter Payton be doing now? Probably owning a NFL franchise. Probably out and about on the speaking tour.  Today I'll be thinking of the man called Sweetness.
