Friday Night Football
Well it's high school football season again. It's never been a big deal to me. I could never watch high school football when I was in high school. Why? Because I felt I should have been down on the field playing. I never played due to two reasons. First being I overslept the day of ninth grade football meetings. A friend and I walked to the meeting, and realized we were late. We didn't want to awkwardly walk in late to the meeting and look bad for doing so. So we walked back home. So laziness on my part. Secondly was because my mom was against it and she wouldn't have signed the permission slip. She felt I was too small and underweight to play. I told her how football players go through conditioning by running and lifting weights. Another reason she told me later in life was she couldn't afford it. Being a single mom, it would have been another bill to pay for.
Later in life I would thank my mom because no one else's ugly rubbed off on my pretty face! Ha!
It's funny to see the dad's of players now and they're coaches, more than likely living their football dreams through their sons. I would have played because of the game. These dad's are looking for scholarships and pro football paychecks in their sons future. Probably won't happen.
I missed out on the brotherhood. I had a younger cousin play about twenty years ago and he always said, "Us football players stick together!" I see older football players reunite and talk of games past. Oh well, I'm not one for reunions anyway.
After work, I went for a walk in the neighborhood and saw the stadium lights on. Woodland High played Pioneer at Pioneer. I have no idea who won. Does it matter? I'm too old to care.
